Potential contestants revealed? The leaked list of Melodifestivalen 2025 participants brought by the Swedish media stirs excitement within Eurovision and Melodifestivalen fans.

Melodifestivalen, the Swedish Eurovision national selection, is one of the most important events for local music lovers and Eurovision fans worldwide. Every year, rumors and leaks about the list of participants fill local and international media. In recent weeks, the Swedish press has been buzzing with names of artists who might take part in Melodifestivalen 2025, which will choose the country’s representative for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.




A list has now been revealed by the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet”. It’s important to note that this is not an official report, but the newspaper has a track record of accurately predicting contestants before the official announcement by the Swedish Television Network. Last year, they correctly predicted 29 out of 30 names! The rumored participants include: Måns Zelmerlöw, Frans Jeppsson Wall, Kaliffa, Arvingarna, Andreas Lundstedt, Dolly-Style, Malou Prytz, Klara Hammarström, the duo Scarlet, and John Lundvik.

Måns Zelmerlöw

Måns Zelmerlöw, the 2015 Eurovision winner with “Heroes“, has reportedly written songs aiming to return to Melodifestivalen. Zelmerlöw previously participated in 2007 with “Cara Mia“, in 2009 with “Hope & Glory“, and won in 2015. Rumors suggest he has collaborated with singer-songwriter Ola Svensson on several songs for the upcoming contest.

According to Aftonbladet’s source, Ola Svensson co-wrote Zelmerlöw’s competition song along with other creators like David Lindgren Zacharias and Sebastian Atas from the duo ‘Jübel‘.




Frans

Frans, who represented Sweden at Eurovision 2016 with “If I Were Sorry“, has been working in the studio and is now confirmed by multiple sources to compete again in next year’s Melodifestivalen. At 25, he’s ready to return to the competition that launched his career at 16.

Kaliffa

Kaliffa Olle Karlsson, 44, a member of “Hoffmaestro” who launched a solo career in 2017, is said to be submitting a song similar in style to the band Medina, who have had success in Melodifestivalen.

Arvingarna

The Swedish dashband Arvingarna, winners of Melodifestivalen 1993 with “Eloise” and 7th placers in the Eurovision Song Contest itself, might be returning for their seventh (!) appearance in the contest.

Andreas Lundstedt

Andreas Lundstedt, 52, a veteran of Melodifestivalen with nine appearances (five with the band Alcazar and four as a solo artist), is rumored to be participating again this year.




Dolly-Style

Dolly-Style, known for their unique appearance, are expected to compete in Melodifestivalen 2025 with a song described as “playful and with a strong beat”.

Malou Prytz

Malou Prytz, 21, who first competed at the age of 16 in 2019 with “I Do Me“, is rumored to be returning to Melodifestivalen 2025 with a strong pop song that’s “more mature than her previous entries” according to the source.

Klara Hammartröm

Klara Hammarström is expected to participate again, with a song reportedly written by Cazzi Opeia, who won Eurovision as a songwriter with “Tattoo” and also won American Song Contest as a creator with “Wonderland“.




Scarlet

Scarlet, the duo well known for their Melodifestivalen 2024 participation with the song “Circus X“, is rumored to come back to Melodifestivalen 2025. According to Aftonbaldet, Scarlet came back strong, and their song is one of the favorites to win Melodifestivalen 2025.

John Lundvik

John Lundvik, who represented Sweden at Eurovision 2019 with “Too Late for Love” finishing fifth, is expected to return. He first participated in Melodifestivalen with “My Turn” in 2018, won in 2019, and returned in 2022 with the Swedish-language song “Änglavakt“. In all his Melodifestivalen appearances, John has directly qualified for the final.




Melodifestivalen 2025 – What We Know So Far

This year, the Swedish national selection has attracted many artists, with reports of no fewer than 2,794 songs submitted for consideration. Thirty songs will compete in the contest, divided into five heats. In each heat, six songs will compete, with the top two songs advancing directly to the final. The songs ranked third will move to the Second Chance round, from which two more songs will be chosen. The Melodifestivalen final will feature 12 songs in total. The winner will be determined by a combination of international jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%). The heats will be held in different locations across Sweden over several weeks, as follows:

  • First Heat: February 1, Coop Norrbotten Arena, Luleå
  • Second Heat: February 8, Scandinavium, Gothenburg
  • Third Heat: February 15, ABB Arena, Västerås
  • Fourth Heat: February 22, Malmö Arena, Malmö
  • Fifth Heat and Second Chance Round: March 1, Husqvarna Garden, Jönköping
  • Grand Final: March 8, Friends Arena, Stockholm




Sweden in Eurovision 2024

“Unforgettable” is the name of the song performed by the duo Marcus & Martinus in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The duo was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision after winning the Swedish pre-selection, Melodifestivalen. Sweden finished ninth in the final with 174 points.
