The British national broadcaster BBC plans to continue Eurovision selection method and choose its representative for next year internally, as It Has Done Since 2020.

The British national broadcaster BBC has confirmed that it will continue with its internal selection method for choosing its representative for Eurovision 2025, to be held in Basel, Switzerland. This approach has been in place since 2020.

David May Joins BBC’s Eurovision Search Team

The BBC announced a collaboration with David May, manager of Britain’s 2022 Eurovision representative Sam Ryder, to assist in the search for the UK’s 2025 Eurovision entry. It’s worth noting that the internal selection method has brought both highs and lows for the UK, from James Newman’s last-place finish in 2021 to Sam Ryder’s second place in 2022, adding to the country’s record number of runner-up positions.

The British national broadcaster commented: “David May is a Music Manager and Company founder with over 17 years in the UK music industry. He was Nominated for Music Week’s Manager of the Year in 2023. David started his career as a singer-songwriter and has since achieved over 200 million streams as a writer/producer. As Sam Ryder’s Manager success included a Number 1 UK album, two Number 2 singles, and BRIT and Emmy Award nominations.”

May himself responded: “I’m excited to be working with BBC Studios and the BBC on this journey. We’re seeking talent and a song that embodies the essence of UK music. We want to collaborate with an authentic act who has a genuine, heartfelt story to tell, and an unmatched vocal tonality and range. Ultimately we’re looking for a powerful three-minute performance that resonates with and moves audiences across Europe and beyond.”

Potential Candidates for UK’s Eurovision 2025 Entry

The British boy band A1, which dominated the charts in the late 90s and early 2000s, has expressed interest in representing the UK in the upcoming contest. The band, consisting of Ben Adams, Paul Marazzi, Christian Ingebrigtsen, and Mark Read, believes they have the perfect song for the competition.

Ben Adams, the British member, has previous Eurovision experience. In 2022, he represented Norway as part of the duo Subwoolfer, performing in a wolf mask. The band also previously competed in the Norwegian Eurovision selection in 2010 with the song “Don’t Wanna Lose You Again,” which secured second place.

Apart from A1, rumors also spread about Becky Adams among Eurovision fans. Adams is a singer-songwriter who is in the early stages of breaking into the British music industry.

United Kingdom in Eurovision 2024

‘Dizzy’ is the name of the song performed by singer Olly Alexander, who represented the United Kingdom in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The song only reached 18th place, having received 46 points—all from the judges. The audience did not award the British representative any points.
