Timur Miroshnychenko, who hosted Eurovision 2017 in Ukraine, discusses the salary of each host and his plans for this year’s Eurovision national final.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 took place in Kyiv after Jamala’s victory the previous year with her song “1944”, bringing the competition to Ukraine for the second time. The event was held at the International Exhibition Center and featured three hosts – Oleksandr Skichko, Volodymyr Ostapchuk, and Timur Miroshnychenko. In a recent interview, Miroshnychenko shared details about his compensation for hosting the contest and his future plans in the Eurovision world.
Equal Pay for Eurovision Hosts
During the interview, Miroshnychenko revealed that despite Skichko and Ostapchuk having more screen time, all three hosts received the same salary of $7,000. This disclosure provides interesting insight into the financial aspects of hosting such a prestigious international event. For Miroshnychenko, who has built his career around Eurovision, the hope of hosting Vidbir, Ukraine’s national final, again, remains strong. Although he hasn’t yet received an invitation to host the national selection, his extensive Eurovision record makes him a compelling choice for future events.
Miroshnychenko’s Eurovision Journey
Miroshnychenko is no stranger to the Eurovision world. His career in the contest began as a commentator for Junior Eurovision in 2005, which he went on to host twice when it was held in Ukraine. In 2007, he started commentating on the main Eurovision Song Contest for television. Since 2022, Miroshnychenko has been hosting Vidbir, Ukraine’s national Eurovision final, and he also participated in the opening ceremony and turquoise carpet event at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, which hosted the contest on behalf of Ukraine. The pinnacle of Miroshnychenko’s Eurovision career was undoubtedly co-hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv. This experience solidified his status as a prominent figure in the Eurovision community.
Ukraine in Eurovision 2024
Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona represented Ukraine at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Teresa & Maria.” The duo won the Ukrainian national selection “Vidbir 2024” and finished third in the Eurovision final with 453 points.
Their entry is notable for being the first since 2002 to place in the top 5 while performing second in the running order, a position traditionally considered challenging in Eurovision statistics.
