Armenian national broadcaster AMPTV has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Armenia announces the return of “Depi Evratesil” national selection after 5 years to choose their representative and song for Basel.

Armenian national broadcaster AMPTV has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, set to take place in Basel, Switzerland. Armenia is the 38th country to express interest in participating in Eurovision 2025, following Austria, Australia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Albania, Estonia, Belgium, United Kingdom, Georgia, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Greece, Israel, Luxembourg, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Malta, Norway, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Serbia, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Czech Republic, France, Cyprus, Croatia, Sweden, and host country Switzerland. After 5 years, Armenia will return to selecting its representative and song for Eurovision through the national selection “Depi Evratesil”, which was used to choose the Armenian entry in 2017, 2018, and 2020.

Armenia’s Recent Eurovision Performance

The Armenian national broadcaster will return to Eurovision 2025 after reaching the top 10 in the previous Eurovision held in May 2024 in Malmö, where Armenia achieved its highest placement at 8th position. In 2017, 2018, and 2020, the “Depi Evratesil” selection was used by Armenia to choose its Eurovision representative and song. The last time, in 2020, singer Athena Manoukian was chosen to represent the country with the song “Chains On You“, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eurovision that year was canceled. Since Armenia’s return to Eurovision in 2022 (after withdrawing in 2021), Armenia has chosen its contestants and songs through internal selection.

Return of “Depi Evratesil”

About a week ago, it was reported that the Armenian national selection “Depi Evratesil” would likely return as Armenia’s selection method for Basel. Today, along with Armenia’s official confirmation of participation, it was officially announced that the Armenian national selection would return next year, and registration for the selection would open soon. Details about the selection’s date, voting method, registration opening, and potential participating artists are still unknown. We are likely to know all the details in the near future. The decision to return to a public national selection through “Depi Evratesil” represents a significant change for the Armenian national broadcaster. In recent years, AMPTV preferred internal selection processes, keeping its Eurovision decisions secret until the last moment. Armenia is known as one of the last countries to announce both its representative and song for the competition. This change in Armenia’s strategy for selecting its Eurovision entry may impact its success in the upcoming competition and potentially improve it.
