The German Eurovision national selection, “Chefsache ESC,” kicked off with its first heat. Twelve competitors vied for a chance to progress to “Chefsache ESC” semifinals scheduled for February 22, with only seven artists moving forward. The first heat results were determined solely by a panel of judges (100%). The first quarterfinal took place at the 8 EMG studios in Cologne, hosted by the renowned German presenter Barbara Schöneberger.
The judges for the first heat were “Chefsache ESC” producer Stefan Raab and the well-known German singer Max Mutzke, who represented Germany in the 2004 Eurovision with the song “Can’t Wait Until Tonight” and finished eighth in the grand final, securing second place in the German Eurovision national selection for 2024 with his song “Forever Strong”.
Now, the German selection process for Eurovision includes Heat 2 which will take place tomorrow, a semifinal on February 22, and the grand final on Saturday, March 1.

Competition Structure and Voting Process
The national selection will feature 24 participants competing in two heats. 12 contestants will advance to the semi-final, from which nine finalists will emerge. Stefan Raab, along with other experts, will serve as a judge during the first three broadcasts. However, the ultimate decision on who will represent Germany at Eurovision in Basel will rest entirely in the hands of the public. Unlike previous years, Raab decided to exclude an international jury, opting instead for full reliance on domestic audience voting.
