Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Eesti Laul 2025. Who should represent Estonia at Eurovision according to the editorial team?

The Estonian Eurovision national selection, “Eesti Laul 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 18:15, featuring 16 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Estonia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Estonian national selection.

Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Estonia?

Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Elysa – “The Last to Know”

Elysa returns to the Estonian Eurovision pre-selection for the fourth time, bringing a well-produced, catchy, and emotional song about pain and betrayal leading to a relationship crisis. It’s a song that both the audience and judges can connect with. However, her chances of winning the local competition are quite slim. It’s a shame… I’m still looking for one “Jury’ song” this year and haven’t found it yet.

Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Johanna Elise – “Eyes Don’t Lie”

This year’s Estonian pre-selection is full of Swedish-style songs, and the more original ones are simply not good enough. Among all the songs, the one I liked most from this pre-selection is “Eyes Don’t Lie” by Johanna Elise, which had a style that was a bit different, more cabaret-like, than regular Eurovision songs. “Eyes Don’t Lie” was really refreshing among all the pre-selection songs that sounded as if they were rejected from Melodifestivalen and went through several committees before reaching Estonia. It’s clear to me that Johanna won’t win, and won’t come close to it, and it’s also clear to me that the winner will be Tommy Cash, the big favorite of the audience and Estonians, but personally I’m tired of such artists and approach, and the song isn’t even a hit. I prefer to support original artists with talent, voice, and a dream, not those who think the sun shines out of their behind.

Ronnie Glik: First Place – Janek – “Frozen”

For my first place, I chose Janek with the song “Frozen”, one of the strongest songs of the season that I hope will be performed in an amazing live version! Janek came with a strong, emotional song, with relatable lyrics and crazy charisma, which could bring him a surprising victory. I must also compliment Andrei Zevakin & Karita with the song “Ma ei tea sind”, a strong and explosive song that is more than worthy of winning the pre-selection and reaching Eurovision. Good luck to these two contestants, who despite their low chances of winning, hold some of the strongest songs of the season!

Guy Solo: First Place – Janek – “Frozen”

Estonia, you surprised me this year! A relatively strong and very surprising pre-selection, many of the songs managed to find their way into my playlist. The only song that doesn’t stop playing is “Frozen” by Janek. I wish the song will be performed on stage as it sounds in my headphones. The song describes the pain and feeling of emotional detachment and freezing after a difficult breakup and describes the struggle to survive emotionally after the loved one leaves. The song is deep, emotional, and powerful – and managed to catch me from the first listen. Janek, please, don’t disappoint me on stage and I hope you’ll represent Estonia at Eurovision 2025! Oh, and two words about Tommy Cash: enough. We’re over it.

Maayan Eli: First Place – Andrei Zevakin & Karita – “Ma ei tea sind”

I had a serious dilemma between “Ma Ei Tea Sind” and the potential annual troll “Prty Till the End of the World”, both the best in the Estonian pre-selection. “Ma Ei Tea Sind” is a song that combines several music styles and I’m not mad that it’s a duet. The chorus is upbeat and addictive and very memorable. It has a lot of energy and dynamism, ups and downs that make it not boring and actually really fun to listen to. Original language is always a bonus, and in this specific case, after one listen you can sing the chorus along with it. The stage performance is what can bring down the song and it requires originality to stand out above the other songs.

Shahar Asido: First Place – Tommy Cash – “Espresso Macchiato”

Although it’s a very generic song in terms of rhythm on paper, you can’t deny the fact that it’s a genius and catchy song! After listening to the songs in the Estonian Eurovision pre-selection several times, I have no doubt that Tommy Cash‘s song can definitely bring them the best result. At first I didn’t connect with it, and somehow it still caught on with me and I started humming it in everyday life.

Aviad Berger: First Place – An-Marlen – “Kulm”

There’s only one thing I’m praying for, that a certain representative won’t be chosen. I’ll also say that it was quite difficult for me to rank the Estonian pre-selection, none of the songs really caught me. And yet if I must, I chose An-Marlen as my first place. Not because it’s some crazy song that can succeed and not because I flew over it, simply because it’s the most okay song in my opinion. The truth is I was disappointed, what a depressing pre-selection.

Tal Dahan: First Place – Minimal Wind – “Armageddon”

My maturity in the current Eurovision season is felt, and in quite a few Eurovision pre-selections I chose ballads or relatively calm songs, and not the upbeat pop or the song that sounds in massive Swedish production. In the Estonian pre-selection, the song “Armageddon” by Minimal Wind stood out to me in its simplicity. The singer’s caressing voice swept me away, as well as the harmonic background voices and the intensification of the song in the chorus. Unfortunately, the song will probably not be chosen, and we can only hope that the potential winner Tommy Cash won’t follow in the footsteps of his Dutch friend, Joost Klein, and will be free from drama as much as possible.

Noy Yehoyada: First Place – Felin – “Solo Anthem”

The song “Solo Anthem” by Felin is my choice for first place in Estonia’s Eurovision pre-selection, although more out of lack of choice than real excitement. It brings a rock-pop vibe that reminds me of songs from my childhood, including a style reminiscent of Avril Lavigne. It has modern production, a catchy chorus and a bold approach, which makes it a solid option in the competition, even if it’s not a song that really swept me away.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Estonia’s 30th participation in Eurovision. Estonia joined the contest in 1994 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2001 when singers Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL, won first place with the song “Everybody”.
