Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025. Who should represent Denmark at Eurovision according to the editorial team?

The Danish Eurovision national selection, “Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 20:00, featuring 8 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Denmark at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Danish national selection.

Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Denmark?

Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Andreas Kruse – “Hear My Prayer”

“Hear My Prayer” sounds like a pop ballad that manages to surprise me as the song progresses. The arrangement doesn’t go to expected places and makes me as a listener curious about the song. The vocal performance required for this song is not simple, and if Andreas hits the notes vocally, he might win the national selection and surprise everyone in Basel.

Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Maria Mathea – “Air”

The Danish national selection continues its weak streak. Since 2021, when the selection stood out positively and Denmark made a bold choice that would have qualified them for the final under today’s system, Denmark has been sending pale songs rejected from other selections, often from their big sister, Sweden. My first place goes to Maria Mathea‘s “Air”, which, despite also being a bit Swedish, still manages to captivate me with excellent production and emphasis on the singer’s big voice. It’s a very difficult song to perform, and I hope the live version will sound the same. If so, it’s Denmark’s only hope for the final, and something tells me that with good staging, it could also do quite well in the jury vote (and overall ranking).

Ronnie Glik: First Place – Adel the Second – “The Unluckiest Boy Alive”

For first place, I chose Adel the Second, with the work of art “The Unluckiest Boy Alive”, which is one of the best songs I’ve heard. This is art for art’s sake, a crazy and catchy song with a message that only the keen-eyed will understand. The development in the lyrics, rhythm, video, and the singer’s emotional singing brings an incredible result of an amazing song that could bring Denmark its highest result in a decade. It must win the national selection, I have no doubt it’s a winner – although it’s a year full of songs in this style, so it might get lost!

Guy Solo: First Place – Sissal – “Hallucination”

Oh, Denmark, what a failed national selection. Each of the songs, without exception, is simply not strong enough to qualify for the final. However, the only one who will manage to stand out a bit above the rest is Sissal, or by her full name Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, with the song “Hallucination”. The singer from the Faroe Islands brought a rhythmic pop song that deals with a sense of powerful connection that changes perception of reality. Despite not growing up in a musical family, she began singing at a very young age and at 10 already performed for the first time in a competition reminiscent of the Norwegian national selection. Over the years, she released independent music that gained recognition, and now it seems that the Danish national selection is the next stage in the young singer’s career. The song is written by the singer along with famous Eurovision writers, including Linnea Deb, who is behind “Heroes” (the Swedish winner in 2015). But this year it seems that Denmark really wants to stay in the semi-final, bring back Rasmussen already!

Aviad Berger: First Place – Sissal – “Hallucination”

Overall, it’s a nice national selection in Denmark. None of the songs will probably stand out too much, it depends a lot on the performance, but in my opinion, the song that can bring Denmark the best result is Sissal’s song. It’s an excellent song that can place relatively high, although there are slightly similar songs this year that might cause it to get lost. Beyond that, Mariya‘s song, “I Belong to Me”, could also achieve a good result at Eurovision, and it would also have the advantage of standing out in such a “pop” year. In short, good luck to Denmark, I hope they manage to break their streak of bad luck.

Tal Dahan: First Place – Sissal – “Hallucination”

The Danish Eurovision national selection is very disappointing this year. The songs are listenable but there’s hardly anything we haven’t heard or seen before. The song I connected with the most is “Hallucination” by Sissal because it has some development, it’s rhythmic, danceable and catchy. The song is somewhat outdated and could have been much more successful two decades ago, but it’s my choice from the available selection in Denmark this year.

Maayan Eli: First Place – Sissal – “Hallucination”

It’s a rather generic dance song, but very enjoyable to listen to. It probably won’t necessarily stand out if it reaches the actual competition, but it fits well in a playlist and is fun to hear. It takes me back in time a bit and would totally fit in any club lineup in the EDM style. There’s something a bit nostalgic about the song, and I liked it more than all the other songs competing in the Danish national selection this year. “Hallucination” also has decent stage potential and many options for video art.
