Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Dora 2025. Who should represent Croatia at Eurovision according to the editorial team?

The Croatian Eurovision national selection, “Dora 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 20:15, featuring 16 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Croatia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Croatian national selection.

Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Croatia?

Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Luka Nizetic – “Juzina”

I chose Luka Nižetić‘s song because it’s the catchiest and best performed song both vocally and stage-wise in the national selection semi-final. The song is about the Južina wind, which in Dalmatian culture (a region on Croatia’s eastern coast) is known to cause depression, body aches, headaches, and bad moods. However, it’s a very humorous and happy song. What’s the problem? There are at least 5 other humorous songs in this Eurovision that will cause the audience to split their votes.

Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Magazin – “AaAaA”

Croatia usually brings good songs in its own language, Serbo-Croatian. Unfortunately, this is not the case this year, and the national selection is so weak that my favorite, as a Balkan enthusiast, is actually a song in English. The band Magazin, which represented Croatia at Eurovision 1995 with the song “Nostalgija”, is back for another round in the national selection, and it seems this time it’s closer than ever to being a comeback. The song has a good hook, and the singer Lorena Bučan, the band’s lead vocalist, brings a precise performance to the stage. Will we see a reunion between Magazin and the other returning participant, Justyna Steczkowska from Poland, thirty years later?

Shahar Asido: First Place – Magazin – “AaAaA”

This year’s Croatian national selection is decent; it’s not really bad, but it’s also not one of the best selections of the season. The song “AaAaA” was for me the most interesting song, and it also seems interesting enough on stage to survive the semi-final stage at Eurovision.

Ronnie Glik: First Place – Marko Bosnjak – “Poison Cake”

My first place goes to the amazing Marko Bošnjak, with one of my favorite songs of the season. True, the live performance needs improvement and he definitely needs to work on his vocals, but the performance was so beautiful and the song itself is simply lovely in my opinion. However, we’re in a year full of songs in the style of a single male performer, and because of that, the choice that will bring the best result is the band Ogenj with “Daj, daj”, a folk song that develops into rock which has really grown on me over time and has an amazing live performance!! Among the other options, they could reach high with the audience. Magazin has a catchy and perfect Eurovision song and the lead vocalist sings excellently, but in such a circus-like year, I don’t see a situation where they’ll stand out.

Guy Solo: First Place – Magazin – “AaAaA”

It was expected that Croatia wouldn’t be able to replicate Baby Lasagna’s success, and still, this national selection is very disappointing without songs strong enough to qualify Croatia for the final this year. Not that I expect this song to qualify for the final, but the only one I managed to connect with and find memorable enough is “AaAaA” by the band Magazin. The song deals with the internal and external struggle against betrayal and fear, while searching for salvation and consistent love that will survive despite everything. With a catchy chorus, it’s the most worthy choice to represent Croatia this year. Additionally, I’ll send an emotional call to Croatia from here: Bring back Albina urgently!!!

Maayan Eli: First Place – Ognej – “Daj, Daj”

I’ve always loved the genre, and the band Ogenj performs it wonderfully with the addition of melodic folk that makes the song less cliché. The chorus is too repetitive, but we can forgive them for that. If they do make it to Eurovision, their performance needs to undergo a serious facelift and the red sweater needs to disappear from the world. Overall, I enjoyed listening, and the lead singer has charisma and an excellent stage presence.

Aviad Berger: First Place – Ivxn – “Monopol”

Congratulations to Croatia! Overall, this is really quite a national selection, I didn’t expect this level, it seems that last year’s second place gave them an appetite for the competition! For my first place, I chose the song “Monopol”, I connected to this song from the first second I heard it. I will say that the live performance disappointed me a bit, but overall it’s still the song I liked the most. Well done, Croatia!

Eurovision 2025: This will be Croatia’s 30th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Croatia joined the competition in 1993 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2024 by finishing in second place with the song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” performed by the singer Baby Lasagna.
