Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Festival da Cancao 2025. Who should represent Portugal at Eurovision according to the editorial team?
The Portuguese Eurovision national selection, “Festival da Cancao 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 22:00, featuring 12 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Portuguese national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Portugal?
Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Fernando Daniel – “Medo”
Fernando Daniel took the stage at the national selection and performed a simple ballad, but I felt that he managed to express and pour his heart out through the song. He also demonstrates impressive vocal abilities. I hope this song will be chosen. I believe it will succeed in reaching the Eurovision final and secure a place on the left side of the scoreboard.
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Diana Vilarinho – “Cotovia”
How wonderful! Usually, I’m not excited about the Portuguese national selection, but I’m very pleased this year. Maybe it’s me who has matured in terms of musical taste, or perhaps it’s truly a significant improvement in the lineup of the selection, but the bottom line is, it’s a totally decent national final! For my first place, I chose to rank Diana Vilarinho with her song “Cotovia”. The song has a refreshing ethnic sound amidst the flood of ballads, which, although some are well-crafted, none of them managed to capture my heart like Balkan ballads do. I believe Portugal will rank high if they choose this song, and truthfully, in general, as a country with songs that are usually different from the classic taste of Eurovision fans, they will stand out among all the joke entries this year.
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Fernando Daniel – “Medo”
My top choice is the divine Fernando Daniel with “Medo”. What an amazing song, it feels like a rejected entry from Sanremo that found its way to Portugal by mistake, and I couldn’t be happier. The performance is of the highest level, and he’s a tremendous vocalist, charismatic, and simply takes the song to incredible places! Of course, I would also be happy with a win for Josh with “Tristeza”. Either of them could bring Portugal a definite top 10 finish.
Guy Solo: First Place – Peculiar – “Adamastor”
This year, Portugal’s Eurovision national selection provided an unforgettable musical experience. I particularly enjoyed the variety of quality songs that took meaning and depth to the next level, combining impressive performances ready for Eurovision’s big stage.
Among all the presented songs, “Adamastor” by the singer Peculiar stood out especially. The song gained success as it documents the character of Adamastor, a maritime mythological figure created by the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões. The song describes the internal and external struggle of the central character, dealing with fears and challenges in their life.
The song’s atmosphere combines strong descriptions of the sea, and together with elements of electronic pop and a catchy chorus, it offers a stunning musical experience. “Adamastor” is a perfect choice for Portugal at Eurovision 2025, showcasing Portuguese talent at its best. The Eurovision 2025 stage is waiting for Peculiar and his wonderful creation.
Maayan Eli: First Place – Diana Vilarinho – “Cotovia”
In my opinion, this was a relatively weak national selection, and some of the songs were competing for last place in the ranking. When I listened to “Cotovia” by Diana Vilarinho, I immediately connected with it. There’s something dark but pleasant about it. The song starts quietly and then rises to heights, and it sounds good throughout. “Cotovia” combines sounds, rhythms, and voices that remind me of music from here, and they flow and blend wonderfully. Its dramatic nature makes it interesting and stands out above all the other songs in the Portuguese selection, and in my opinion, it will be an interesting addition to Eurovision this year.
