Recent reports in the Greek media reveal that Cyprus’s Eurovision 2025 performance will be one of the most intriguing and unconventional acts of the year.
Preparations for Eurovision 2025 in Basel are in full swing, and one performance already generating significant buzz is that of Cyprus, led by singer Theo Evan. According to Greek media reports, Theo’s act is set to be one of the most striking this year, featuring scaffolding, constant movement, physically demanding elements, and acrobatics designed to leave viewers astonished.
What Can We Expect from Cyprus’ Eurovision Performance?
During a broadcast of the Greek morning show “Super Katerina,” journalist Giannis Poulopoulos revealed that Theo Evan will not touch the ground at all during his performance. “This young man is going to perform three minutes of acrobatics while singing live. He will move on a scaffolding structure, maybe even jump. It’s physically and vocally challenging,” Poulopoulos noted.
Christer Björkman, a veteran Swedish icon in the Eurovision scene, served as the contest’s producer for many years and was responsible for stage presentations and the running order. Recently, he hinted in an interview that one of this year’s acts would feature “daring choreography on a scaffolding structure, like living towers that are constantly moving”—without mentioning any names. Many fans are now convinced he was referring to Theo Evan’s performance for Cyprus.
Björkman, who represented Sweden at Eurovision 1992, is considered a central figure in shaping the contest’s modern format. Over the past decade, he has worked as an artistic advisor and producer for national shows and was also involved in creating the American spin-off, the “American Song Contest.”
As previously reported, the stage direction is entrusted to Sergio Jaén, a Spanish director who has worked with major names such as Dua Lipa and has led stages at European ceremonies and Junior Eurovision. Alongside him is Spanish choreographer Borja Rueda, renowned for his distinctive choreographic style.
Cyprus in Eurovision 2025
“Shh” is the title of the song that will be performed by Theo Evan, representing Cyprus in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2025, set to take place on May 13 in Basel, Switzerland. The song was composed by the Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos, who has written, produced, and composed 18 Eurovision songs to date. The song was written by Linda Dale and Lasse Nymann who co-wrote and produced the winning Eurovision 2024 song “The Code” alongside the Norwegian singer-songwriter Elsie Bay. The song is sung in English.
The song describes the mysterious identity who is known for its beauty and external traits. It seems to be caught in a cycle of excessive self-assurance, which could lead to its downfall. The lyrics reflect the internal struggles, with emotions such as love, desire, and jealousy pulling in different directions. It’s caught between the extremes of heaven and hell, representing her internal conflict. The song portrays this character as someone torn between the highs of life and the lows, deeply affected by her emotional journey.
Cyprus is currently in 14th place in the betting odds for Eurovision 2025.
