The ultimate Eurovision song? Following a massive vote in the UK, BBC radio listeners determined the greatest Eurovision song of the 21st century. All the details in the article!

Just before the grand final of Eurovision 2025, set to take place in Basel, Switzerland—for the first time in the city’s history—the UK’s most popular radio station, “Radio 2” of the national broadcaster BBC, launched a special project celebrating the British public’s love for Eurovision: the selection of the favorite Eurovision song of the 21st century. Topping the poll was “Space Man,” performed by Sam Ryder, the United Kingdom’s representative at Eurovision 2022, who finished second in the contest and secured the UK’s best result in recent years. Full results follow in the article.

Historic Listener Vote: Choosing the 21st Century Eurovision Song

The vote for “Your Ultimate 21st Century Eurovision Song” opened at the end of March. As part of the process, listeners were invited to select up to five songs from a list of 67, curated by Eurovision experts from both inside and outside the station. The list included all Eurovision winners from 2000 to 2024, alongside a selection of iconic non-winning entries: runners-up, memorable performances, and fan favorites.

Announcing the Winners: Special Broadcast Events

The voting results were announced on Tuesday, April 22, during a special BBC radio broadcast hosted by Michelle Visage, judge and presenter on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and a long-time Eurovision fan. The special featured the top 40 Eurovision songs of the 21st century—as chosen by British listeners.

The main event will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 17, featuring the top 40 countdown, followed by the live broadcast of the Eurovision final from Basel that evening.

It is important to note that these results do not affect the official Eurovision outcome, but rather serve as a festive British tribute to fans of the contest. Still, this is a rare opportunity to see how the British public ranks the most memorable songs of the current century.

The group will perform the song in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 which will take place on May 15th in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the band members along with Thomas Stengaard, who wrote the winning Eurovision 2013 song “Only Teardrops“, Julie Aagaard who wrote Austria’s songs in 2024 “We Will Rave” (24th place in the grand final) and Malta’s song in 2022, “I Am What I Am” (16th place in the semi-final). The song is performed in English.

The song describes a wild night of partying and mayhem, where the speaker experiences a series of crazy and unexpected events.
