Greece at Eurovision 2025: Greek media unveils new details and stage elements for Klavdia’s performance in Basel. All the details are in the article!
Preparations for Eurovision 2025 in Basel are in full swing. Following the recent revelations about the Cypriot performance, the concept for the show by Klavdia, Greece’s representative, has now been unveiled. According to reports in the Greek media, the performance has changed dramatically from the national selection. It will be dramatic, emotional, and deeply melancholic, emphasizing the song’s message.
What to Expect from Greece’s Eurovision Performance?
During a broadcast on the Greek morning show “Super Katerina,” journalist Giannis Poulopoulos revealed that Greece’s performance will focus solely on Klavdia, without dancers or additional performers. The stage will be designed to convey a sense of loneliness and sadness; Klavdia will stand on a mirror-like platform reflecting visual effects that symbolize heartbreak-shards and imagery illustrating emotional loss and separation.
Poulopoulos added that the final segments of the performance will resonate not only with the Greek audience but will also move the international viewers. According to Poulopoulos, these final moments will transcend language barriers, making it clear to everyone what is happening on stage and how it connects to the song.
Based on Poulopoulos’ report, Klavdia’s costume design will be entirely different from what was seen in the Greek national selection. He hinted that Klavdia will undergo powerful and refreshing visual transformations during her performance at the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
The stage direction is led by Fokas Evangelinos, one of the most prominent directors and choreographers in the Eurovision world. He is responsible for two Eurovision-winning stagings: Dima Bilan in 2008 and Helena Paparizou in 2005. Additionally, he has directed countless Greek performances, including Marina Satti’s last year.
Klavdia’s Victory in the Greek National Selection
Klavdia won the Greek national selection, competing against eleven other contestants. She came first in the public vote, first in the local jury vote, and third in the international jury vote.
She took the stage in a cream-colored outfit, tight shirt and flared pants, accompanied by five dancers in bodysuits. The stage was quite bare, featuring a backdrop of skies and lightning with a dark atmosphere. Her powerful and moving performance received much praise, marked by a clean and precise vocal delivery that emphasized her impressive vocal abilities and conveyed the song’s emotional message.
How Much Will Greece Invest in Eurovision 2025?
The Greek national broadcaster revealed the financial details for Eurovision 2025 in its annual budget report. The budget covers all competition-related expenses – from song and video production, through delegation costs, to participation fees.
The breakdown is as follows:
-
Production costs (performance, staff salaries, equipment logistics): €182,000.
-
Delegation travel and accommodation: €59,000.
-
Commentary booth rental: €18,000.
-
Participation fee to the EBU: €143,000.
This year’s budget is €20,000 higher than last year, when Greece spent around €380,000 for its participation in Malmö, Sweden. The participation fee has decreased compared to last year’s €176,000, but overall costs are higher due to increased production and logistics. The budget reflects the importance Greece places on the contest, despite economic challenges.
Greece at Eurovision 2025
“Asteromáta” (in English: “Starry Eyes”) is the song that will be performed by Klavdia, representing Greece in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025, scheduled for May 15th in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the singer herself, together with the creative team Arcade, who previously wrote Greece’s Eurovision entries for 2020 and 2021, “Superg!rl” and “Last Dance”, for Stefania Liberakakis. The song is performed in Greek.
“Asteromáta” deals with deep longing and pain over separation and loss, using romantic and poetic language. The singer addresses a loved one, calling them “my little star” and “starry eyes,” expressing her wish to be close, to feel their presence, and to find peace. Imagery such as “my dear mother, don’t cry” and “my old body, the flames won’t defeat it” evoke resilience in the face of hardship, with a deep connection to nature and the past, as referenced by “the sand of my roots” and yearning for a return home or to a safe place. Metaphors like “forgotten wings” and “sacred abysses” convey a search for inner connection and lost wholeness. Together, these create a picture of loss, but also hope for reconnection and comfort. The song’s poetic language evokes feelings of love, longing, and the desire for peace and solace.
Currently, Greece is ranked 19th in the betting odds for Eurovision 2025.
Klavdia – Who Are You?
Klavdia Papadopoulou, a Greek singer who rose to fame after participating in the Greek version of The Voice in 2018, is one of tonight’s most compelling contenders. Her mentor during the competition was none other than Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou, who guided her all the way to the finals.
For “Ethnikos Telikos 2025”, Klavdia collaborated with Arcade, a team of renowned music creators and producers who also wrote her entry “Asteromata“. The song blends modern elements with traditional Greek music, creating an emotional and captivating piece. With its melancholic tone, “Asteromata” draws inspiration from Klavdia’s family’s survival story during the Pontic Greek genocide – a deeply personal narrative that adds significant weight to her performance.
