Norway at Eurovision 2025: An extraordinary incident shook Kyle Alessandro. What caused the backstage turmoil, and why was the singer rushed into urgent surgery?
Kyle Alessandro, Norway’s representative, is the first act to rehearse today on the Eurovision 2025 stage with his song “Lighter“. Kyle will perform as song number 8 in the first semi-final, scheduled for May 13th. Kyle Alessandro was forced to undergo emergency surgery immediately after his first rehearsal on the Eurovision stage in Basel. This unexpected health event put the entire team into emergency mode.
Severe Pain and Wisdom Teeth Complications
Today, Kyle held his first rehearsal with the Norwegian delegation on the Eurovision stage. However, behind the scenes, the situation was far from ideal. The head of the Norwegian delegation, Mads Tørklep, described the difficulties that began early in the morning:
“He could barely open his mouth this morning and had to take strong painkillers just to get through the rehearsal”.
Immediately after the rehearsal ended, the singer was rushed to an emergency dental clinic. There, he received a clear diagnosis: a severe gum infection caused by a problematic wisdom tooth, which required immediate extraction.
“The doctor immediately realized the situation was serious and decided to extract the tooth urgently”.
The delegation reported.
The Pain Began Earlier This Week
Kyle himself shared that the pain began as early as the previous Monday, but he did not think the issue was that serious:
“I didn’t give it much importance and thought it would pass after a few days, but since then, the pain only worsened. We started the day with the first rehearsal on stage, and everything went great. But after the rehearsal, the pain intensified again, so we got an urgent appointment with a dentist, and it ended with an extraction”.
According to him, the doctor instructed him to avoid all activity and rest until Wednesday:
“The doctor said I need to rest until Wednesday, and then everything will be fine”.
All Upcoming Activities Cancelled
Following the medical procedure, Kyle received a clear directive to avoid physical activity and maintain complete rest in the coming days. This means he will not be able to sing or participate in any of the events planned for him in the near future. The head of the delegation noted that the schedule was especially busy:
“Monday was supposed to be a full day of rehearsals, which we now have to cancel. Both Monday and Tuesday included three hours of interviews with international media”.
He added:
“We’ll need to assess the situation as we go and see when he feels well enough to return to singing. It’s not easy to recover from a wisdom tooth extraction, and his health condition requires us to strictly follow the guidelines. We’re waiting for him to get back to himself”.
The Delegation Continues Preparations
Despite Kyle’s health situation, the rest of the Norwegian delegation intends to continue rehearsing on their own for the time being. Yesterday, during Norway’s first rehearsal, the singer managed to complete three run-throughs of the performance, which took place for the first time on the Eurovision stage – the largest in the music world.
Will Norway manage to recover from this medical crisis in time? For now, the delegation must adapt to a new reality and hope that Kyle returns to the stage healthy and ready. All eyes are on Basel, where it will soon be decided whether Norway’s representative can return to perform as planned.
