France in Eurovision 2025: Singer Louane took the stage for her first rehearsal with the song “maman”. Stay updated with all the reports from Basel, Switzerland

The French singer Louane were the eleventh act to rehearse today on the Eurovision 2025 stage with her song “maman“. They will perform in the second semi-final on May 15th between song number 10 (Geogria) and song number 11 (Denmark), and in the grand final to be held on May 17th.

Louane is a major figure in the French music scene who rose to fame a decade ago on “The Voice” thanks to her powerful voice and moving ballads. Her song tells the story of a life’s journey – a girl becoming a woman, a daughter becoming a mother. In the official video, the narrative moves between past and present as Louane looks into her childhood home and sees her younger self, but the staging in Basel takes a different, equally powerful direction.

France at Eurovision 2025: More details about the rehearsal performance

We were also given staging notes from the French delegation, which describe the performance as follows:

“On stage, sand falls grain by grain, like time slipping away in an hourglass. This is more than just a performance. It’s a reminder: time passes quickly, and every moment counts. ‘Maman’ is about love, loss, and the strength to move forward. The hourglass becomes a symbol of life itself-its cycles, its urgency, the beauty of the present moment. Through pain, Louane delivers a clear message: no matter what we go through, we can always rise again. And as long as the sand keeps falling, we must live-fully and with all our strength”.

As for the details: at the center of the stage is a circle covered in sand. Louane performs the entire song barefoot inside this circle, wearing a long black lace dress, while a continuous stream of sand falls from the ceiling onto one side of the circle.

At one point, she kneels and clears away some sand to reveal a mirror beneath her. Every movement is precisely timed with the drumbeat and camera angles, and there are striking shots of her through the illuminated grains of sand. The lighting grows more intense with the strings, and the drum beats like a heart until the camera pulls back for a dramatic final shot. It’s another performance that leaves you holding your breath.

As for pyrotechnics-no information has been provided yet.
