ORF and Cyberdrone will launch Eurovision 2026 at Schönbrunn Palace with 3,000 drones honoring the Austrian winners: Udo Jürgens, Conchita Wurst, and JJ.

On Monday, April 27th, Austria’s largest drone show will kick off Eurovision 2026. Approximately 3,000 drones will illuminate the skies above Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, depicting various figures, including the three Austrian Eurovision winners: Udo Jürgens, who won for Austria for the first time in 1966 with “Merci, Chérie“, the history-making drag artist Conchita Wurst, who brought the trophy home in 2014 with “Rise Like A Phoenix“, and the latest winner, JJ, who triumphed in 2025 with “Wasted Love“.

Michael Krön, Executive Producer of Eurovision 2026, shared his excitement regarding the grand event:

“I am very happy that the Eurovision production team, together with the Austrian national broadcaster, ORF, and the drone company ‘Cyberdrone’, are managing to bring this extraordinary event to Vienna. With the Eurovision drone show, we are making a spectacular statement and making the song contest impossible to miss. I can hardly imagine a more magical opening than 3,000 lit-up drones over Schönbrunn Palace.”

Silvio Peruci, CEO of Cyberdrone, shared his feelings as the lead of this ambitious project:

“As a native Austrian, I am very proud to execute this project for Eurovision. For Cyberdrone, this show in Austria is an important milestone in our global expansion. Our multinational team brings six years of international experience, and we are thrilled to showcase our expertise against the prestigious backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace – in one of the largest drone shows Europe has ever seen.”

Global Production Meets Austrian Heritage

Cyberdrone, one of the world’s leading drone show providers, is behind the production. The multinational team is celebrating its debut in the Austrian market with this massive event. To date, only one other drone show of this scale has taken place in Europe – in September 2025 at the Vatican, during Andrea Bocelli and Pharrell Williams‘ “Grace for the World” concert.

The drone performance will be accompanied by music from Dorothee Freiberger. In addition to the winning Eurovision entries, the official theme music composed specifically for Eurovision 2026 will also be performed.

The innovative drone show will open its gates at 20:00 CET, while the performance itself is scheduled to begin at 21:30 CET. The best viewing point, which includes free entry, will be at the “Spring Market” located in the courtyard of Schönbrunn Palace. Due to limited capacity, entry is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eurovision 2026: the 70th edition of the contest will take place in Vienna, Austria, on May 12th, 14th, and 16th, 2026. The Wiener Stadthalle arena, which will host the event, is expected to accommodate around 16,000 spectators per show. The contest returns to Austria following the nation’s third historic win with the song “Wasted Love”, performed by JJ. It will be Austria’s third time hosting Eurovision, after previous editions held in the country in 1967 and 2015.
