Aidan heads to Vienna for Eurovision 2026 with a high-profile British production team, aiming to set the record for Malta.
Just days before Aidan and the Maltese delegation depart for Vienna for the start of rehearsals for Eurovision 2026, the British “dream team” responsible for the singer’s performance has been revealed. The production team consists of highly acclaimed names in the Eurovision world and beyond. Will Aidan meet the high expectations set by the bookmakers?
The Maltese Superstar Team
The artistic direction of the performance will be led by the British studio Black Skull Creative, founded by Dan Shipton, Jay Revel, and Ross Nicholson. Shipton was responsible for the direction of the United Kingdom in 2022 with Sam Ryder, who achieved second place, and also served as the artistic director for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. The British studio is known for its collaborations with global superstars such as Dua Lipa, Ava Max, and Zara Larsson.
Other members of the artistic production team include Vasil Ivanov, who served as the Head of Press for the Bulgarian delegation from 2014 to 2018, and Lee Smithurst, who previously served as the Head of the British Delegation and was also the Head of Show for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
The lighting design for the performance will be executed by Al Gordon, who has previously produced lighting for several Eurovision contests and other major productions, such as the Super Bowl, the MTV Awards, and the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games.
The styling will be handled by Tom Eerebout, a stylist well-known for his work with Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora, and others.
Aiming High
The British team is filled with professionals with extensive experience and includes some of the biggest names in the music industry and the Eurovision world. Despite failing to qualify for the final in three of the last four years, Malta currently stands at an impressive 11th place in the general betting odds, and 7th in the odds to qualify for the final, with a 76% qualifying chance.
Aidan’s British “dream team” signals an intention to meet these high expectations, achieve Malta’s best result in recent years, and return the Maltese language to the Eurovision final for the first time in 54 years.
Malta will take the stage for its first rehearsal on Tuesday, May 5th, at 15:40 CET. For all the latest updates, stay tuned to EuroMix!
Aidan – Who Are You?
Aidan, 27, is considered one of the dominant forces in Malta’s music charts, with an impressive record of 15 singles reaching number one. Known for his energetic and engaging live performances, he has performed on Malta’s biggest stages — including the country’s official New Year’s Eve celebrations, in front of more than 50,000 people.
In both 2024 and 2025, Aidan achieved major milestones in his career, headlining his own solo show at the MFCC Conference Centre — Malta’s largest indoor venue. His production, “AIDAN THE SHOW”, became a sold‑out sensation, moving over 10,000 enthusiastic fans and cementing his status as one of the pillars of Maltese music.
He previously competed in the Maltese national selection in 2018 with the song “Dai Laga”, placing fourth, tried again in 2022 with the song “Ritmu”, finishing second, and returned in 2023 — but was disqualified after the quarter‑final stage due to a rules violation.
Malta at Eurovision 2026
“Bella” (in English: “Beautiful”) is the song that will be performed by the singer Aidan, which will represent Malta as song number 14 in the second semi-final on May 14th, in Vienna, Austria. The song was written by Aidan himself together with Joep Van Den Boom and Sarah Bonnici. Bonnici previously represented Malta as a singer and songwriter at Eurovision 2024 with the song “Loop“, which finished last in its semi-final. The song is performed in English, Italian and Maltese.
Currently, Malta is ranked 11th in the betting tables ahead of Eurovision 2026.
Eurovision 2026: This will be Malta’s 38th participation in Eurovision. Malta joined the competition in 1971 and achieved its best result in Eurovision 2002 and Eurovision 2005 after finishing second twice.
