Canada’s national broadcaster CBC will not reveal the participation cost of its debut performance in the contest, according to reports
Canada is going to debut in Eurovision 2027, and everyone is already excited. Now it is confirmed that CBC will not publish the costs for their first ever appearance in the contest.
According to media reports, Canada does not intend to disclose its budget for Eurovision 2027. The decision has raised questions about transparency, not only among Canadian taxpayers who may want to know how public funds are being spent, but also among Eurovision fans closely following the country’s historic debut in the contest.
Among Eurovision fans, a widely discussed theory is that Canada’s participation – representing one of the world’s largest economies with longstanding cultural ties to Europe – is intended to offset the departure of countries that have boycotted the contest over Israel’s participation.
Spain, in particular, has frequently been mentioned in these discussions. As one of the Eurovision “Big Five,” Spain was among the contest’s largest financial contributors and automatically qualified for the Grand Final each year.
