DARA reacts to Burgas winning Eurovision 2027 hosting rights, while Netta Barzilai’s prediction curse finally comes to an end.
Burgas has won the bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year, beating the proposal submitted by the Bulgarian capital Sofia. This will be the first time Bulgaria hosts Eurovision, following DARA‘s historic victory at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, Austria, last May.
The choice of Burgas also ended Netta Barzilai‘s streak of failed predictions. Known among Eurovision fans as the “cursed winner” who could never correctly predict the host city, Netta finally got it right this year. DARA herself had also incorrectly predicted the host city, and reacted to Burgas being chosen by joking that the “curse” had now been transferred from Netta to her.
A Tradition of Missed Predictions
Here is a summary of Netta Barzilai’s predictions over the years:
- For Eurovision 2019, she predicted Jerusalem, but the organizers selected Tel Aviv.
- For Eurovision 2020, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she bet on Amsterdam, while Rotterdam hosted the 2021 contest.
- For Eurovision 2022, she guessed Rome, but Turin was chosen.
- For Eurovision 2023, she predicted Manchester, while Liverpool hosted the event.
- For Eurovision 2024, she chose Stockholm, but Malmö was the host city.
- For Eurovision 2025, her guess was Geneva, but Basel was selected.
- For Eurovision 2026 her guess was Innsbruck, but Vienna was selected.
- For Eurovision 2027 she predicted and succeeded with Burgas.
Eurovision 2027: The 71st Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria, following the country’s first historic win with the song “Bangaranga” performed by DARA. This will be the first time the contest is hosted in Bulgaria.
