RTL advances its Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 selection as 80 artists audition and over 300 songs are submitted.

Luxembourg has closed applications for its national selection, the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027, and revealed the next steps in the selection process. A total of 80 artists will take part in auditions, with familiar faces from previous editions potentially returning. When will the finalists be revealed? Here are all the details!

The process of selecting Luxembourg’s representative for Eurovision 2027, which will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, has entered its next stage. The application window for the Luxembourg Song Contest 2027 closed on September 20th, and it has now been announced that 80 artists will participate in auditions at RTL’s studios from October 16th to October 18th. This represents a 50% increase in the number of artists compared with the previous two editions, a rise that can be attributed to changes in the selection process.

Unlike the previous two years, when artists were required to apply with their finished songs, this year’s selection also allowed performers to register without a specific song. Applicants were eligible as long as they met at least one of the following criteria: Luxembourgish citizenship, three consecutive years of residence in Luxembourg, or genuine and demonstrable involvement in the country’s local music scene, such as regularly participating in festivals and events.

Returning Candidates and New Talent

It has been announced that many familiar faces from previous editions are trying their luck again this year, although their identities remain a mystery for now. Fans will have to wait until the audition process concludes to discover which artists are returning. Their continued interest reflects the music community’s ongoing commitment to Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey. At the same time, a new wave of candidates will compete for the first time for a place on the LSC stage at the “Rockhal” venue.

While the number of applicants has increased, their distribution by eligibility category has remained broadly unchanged. Approximately 70% of candidates hold Luxembourgish citizenship, around 20% qualify through the residency requirement, and the remaining 10% are eligible through their involvement in the local music scene. Most applicants in the latter category come from neighboring countries, particularly France and Belgium, as well as Mediterranean nations including Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain.

The Three Stages of Luxembourg’s Eurovision 2027 Selection

The process of selecting Luxembourg’s Eurovision 2027 entry can be divided into three stages: selecting potential candidates, choosing songs, and a decisive new songwriting and artist-matching workshop.

Stage One – Selecting the Artists

The first stage is already underway, with candidates attending auditions this week. Performers are being assessed on their vocal abilities, artistic identity and stage presence. Those selected will advance to the next stage of the process, with their names set to be revealed after the auditions conclude.

Stage Two – Selecting the Songs

The second stage focuses on choosing the candidate songs. Alongside the artist selection process, the call for songwriters and composers remains open, allowing both local and international creators to submit songs to the Luxembourg Song Contest. Selected artists are also invited to submit their own material.

More than 300 songs have already been submitted, and applications will remain open until October 29th.

Stage Three – The Decisive Song and Artist-Matching Workshop

The third stage will bring the selected artists together with the submitted songs. This new matching workshop is designed as a creative process centered on the chosen performers. Its goal is to identify the most promising artist-and-song combination, with strong Eurovision potential and the ability to help Luxembourg compete at the highest possible level.

All three stages of the selection process are being overseen by Eurovision experts and industry professionals, whose names will be announced at a later date.

The Grand Final and the Road to Bulgaria 2027

As mentioned, the final competition of LSC will take place on Saturday, January 30th, 2027, at the “Rockhal” venue. This event will officially select the Luxembourgish entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. The Eurovision Song Contest itself is scheduled to take place in mid-May in Bulgaria, following the victory of Dara this past year with the hit “Bangaranga”. The host city and exact dates in Bulgaria will be announced at the end of the upcoming month. As a reminder, eight finalists competed in the 2026 national selection, which was ultimately won by Eva Marija with the song “Mother Nature”, representing the country in Vienna.

The Luxembourgish national broadcaster RTL will continue to lead, under the mandate of the Luxembourg government, all Eurovision activities in the country and produce the lavish national selection event. Luxembourg in Eurovision 2026

“Mother Nature” is the title of the song that was performed by Eva Marija, who represented Luxembourg at Eurovision 2026, to be held in Vienna, Austria, in the second semi-final on May 14th. Eva finished 12th in the second semi final, with 60 points, which wasn’t enough for her to qualify for the Grand Final.

Eurovision 2027: This will be Luxembourg’s 41th participation in Eurovision. Luxembourg joined the competition in 1956, was one of the seven founding countries, and has won it five times over the years. Luxembourg’s last victory was at Eurovision 1983 with the song “Si la vie est cadeau” performed by singer Corinne Hermès. In 2024, Luxembourg returned to the competition after a 31-year absence.
