Switzerland, having won Eurovision 2024, is preparing to host the competition in 2025 and is looking to feature big names for guest performances. One standout possibility is Céline Dion, as suggested by one of the producers, who noted that it is entirely feasible.
After Nemo secured Switzerland’s third victory in Eurovision history in 2024, and following the announcement that Eurovision 2025 will be hosted in Basel, the teams working on producing the competition are already looking ahead to the three shows expected on May 13, 15, and 17. They are searching for artists who will guest star in the competition and perform in the interval acts and opening ceremonies. One of the most prominent names is undoubtedly the 1988 Eurovision winner for Switzerland, legendary singer Céline Dion. According to one of the competition’s producers, Reto Peritz, it’s absolutely possible!
When asked about the possibility of Céline Dion appearing at Eurovision 2025, Peritz replied that it’s certainly something they’re thinking about.
“Actually, at Eurovision, we want to put talents in the foreground and not let them be overshadowed by world-famous stars. But of course, it also has its appeal to have such a name in the show.”
However, when asked if such an offer had already been made to the singer, he refused to answer. So, is there a feasibility for such a performance from Dion? Well, it’s a bit complicated.
Céline Dion’s Health Challenges
Céline Dion was diagnosed a few years ago with “Stiff Person Syndrome” – a syndrome that affects the brain’s control over body muscles and makes it difficult for the singer to control her voice. She bravely revealed her struggle with the disease in a film titled “I Am: Céline Dion”. Therefore, even before her medical condition worsened, she announced the cancellation of her planned tour.
Despite this, after a few years of not taking the stage to sing, Dion surprised everyone by returning with a moving performance on the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. It seems that the singer is now finding ways to return to performing, albeit less than before and in different ways. It also appears that she has the desire to return to performing, and there’s nothing like returning for a guest appearance in the country for which she won Eurovision, after achieving her first victory with her song “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi” and swept Europe and the world.
Eurovision 2025: The 69th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, on May 13, 15, and 17, 2025. The St. Jakobshalle arena, which will host the competition, is expected to accommodate about 12,000 spectators for each show. The contest will take place in Switzerland following the country’s third historical win with the song “The Code”, performed by singer Nemo. This will be the third time the competition has been hosted in Switzerland, after the contest was held there in 1956 and 1989..
