The Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has opened submissions for “Söngvakeppnin 2025,” the national selection for Eurovision 2025. The winner will represent Iceland in Basel, Switzerland.

Iceland’s national broadcaster, RÚV, has officially opened submissions for “Söngvakeppnin 2025,” the country’s Eurovision Song Contest national finals. This announcement comes just days after Iceland confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, following a period of uncertainty.

The submission window for Söngvakeppnin 2025 opened on September 20, 2024, and will remain open until October 13, 2024. While the full format details are yet to be revealed, RÚV has already announced that 10 songs will compete in the national final, scheduled for February 2025.

Participants in the loacal competition must hold Icelandic citizenship to be eligible. The winner will be determined through a combination of jury and public voting. Additionally, RÚV has hinted at potential changes to the format of the selection process.

Iceland in Eurovision 2024

“Scared Of Heights” is the name of the song performed by singer Hera Björk, who was chosen to represent Iceland after winning the local national finals. Iceland did not advance to the final, finishing 15th and last in the first semi-final with only 3 points.

This is the second consecutive year that Iceland has not qualified for the final, and the fourth time overall that the country has finished last in the competition.
