Måns Zelmerlöw, Eurovision 2015 winner from Sweden, is expected to compete in Melodifestivalen 2025 and attempt to represent Sweden at Eurovision.

Måns Zelmerlöw, who represented Sweden at Eurovision 2015, made history by securing the country’s sixth victory with the memorable performance of “Heroes“. Since then, he has hosted Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, appeared in various Eurovision events, and participated in different performances dedicated to the contest.

Now, on the Schlagerfesten podcast, discussions are underway about potential candidates for Melodifestivalen 2025, which will serve as Sweden’s national finals for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Among the candidates, according to the podcast speakers, an anonymous source reported that Måns Zelmerlöw has submitted a song and will try his luck in the local Eurovision selection.

Return to Sweden and Special Collaboration

The podcast reveals that Måns Zelmerlöw and his family, who have been living in the UK in recent years, have apparently returned to reside in Sweden. There’s no doubt that an intensive journey like Eurovision is easier to handle when your family is with you. Additionally, a decade after his Eurovision victory, and after seeing Loreen succeed in bringing Sweden another win (having won Eurovision in 2012 and then again in 2023), Måns himself might be tempted to try it again. The singer has previously expressed support for the idea of returning to the competition and expressed a desire to try to win again in a special interview with Euromix.

Alongside these, anonymous sources report that Måns has an excellent song in his pocket, nothing less than a hit. To bring the song to the Melodifestivalen stage properly, he intends to collaborate with Fredrik Rydman, who was responsible for the choreography of Måns’ winning Eurovision performance. There’s no doubt that if Måns is indeed going for this opportunity, he’s going all out!

Måns’ Long History with Eurovision

While Måns won the Swedish national finals in 2015 and received the ticket to represent the country at Eurovision, it wasn’t his first attempt. Previously, he participated twice more in Melodifestivalen – in 2007, where he reached third place, and in 2009, where he came fourth. Alongside his participation in the national finals, he also had the honor of hosting it in 2010 and 2021.

After his Eurovision 2015 victory, he was one of the hosts of Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm and became an almost permanent figure in Eurovision contests. He participated in the interval act at Eurovision 2017, where he taught the three Eurovision hosts how to host. At Eurovision 2019 in Israel, he performed a cover of the hit “Fuego” that brought Cyprus second place in Eurovision 2018, as part of the “Switch Song” interval act. He also appeared in the special Eurovision broadcast of 2020 and at Eurovision 2021, where he performed in additional interval acts.

Thus, it seems that Måns has never hesitated to return to Eurovision as a country representative, as a host, as a former participant in a certain interval act, and has made sure to say over the years that he is interested in returning to the competition. Therefore, a possible return to Melodifestivalen this year is not far-fetched at all.

Sweden in Eurovision 2024

“Unforgettable” is the name of the song performed by the duo Marcus & Martinus in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The duo was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision after winning the Swedish pre-selection, Melodifestivalen. Sweden finished ninth in the final with 174 points.

Eurovision 2025: This will be Sweden’s 63rd participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Sweden joined the competition in 1958 and has won it seven times over the years. Sweden’s most recent victory was at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Tattoo,” performed by the singer Loreen.
