Melodifestivalen 2025 Lineup Continues to Generate Buzz: Who Are the Two New Artists Set to Compete in Sweden’s Eurovision Selection?
Sweden’s Eurovision national selection, known as “Melodifestivalen,” is the largest and most popular pre-selection, watched by many Eurovision fans. While the official list of contestants for Melodifestivalen 2025 has not yet been revealed, rumors about the participants’ identities continue to circulate.
According to the Swedish newspaper “Expressen,” two new names can be added to the list of contestants: one unfamiliar to the Eurovision community, and another who has previously participated in the Swedish selection. Let’s get to know these two talked-about artists.
Angelino
Angelino Gabriel Markenhorn, known by his stage name Angelino, was born on February 15, 1998, in Malmö, Sweden. Angelino has previous experience in the Swedish Eurovision selection. He participated in 2022 with the song “The End” in the fourth heat of the competition. Unfortunately for Angelino, he finished in fifth place and was eliminated early in the contest.
“The End” was performed by Angelino and written by Julie Aagaard, who has been involved in writing songs such as “We Will Rave” for Kaleen, representing Austria in last year’s Eurovision, and “I Am What I Am” for Emma Muscat, representing Malta in Eurovision 2022. Aagaard was joined by songwriter Melanie Wehbe, who contributed to writing “Sand” for Saba, representing Denmark in last year’s Eurovision competition. Will we see another collaboration between the singer and these talented songwriters? Only time will tell.
Kristofer Greczula
Kristofer Greczula, 32, began his career as a singer in the rock band “Damn Delicious” before continuing as a solo artist in 2017. Kristofer has also appeared on TV shows “Allsång på Skansen” and TV4’s “Nyhetsmorgon.” This marks Kristofer’s first participation in the Swedish Eurovision selection.
Additional Potential Contestants We’ve Already Reported On
- Måns Zelmerlöw – The 2015 Eurovision winner with “Heroes” has written songs aiming to return to the Swedish Eurovision selection. As known, Måns participated in Melodifestivalen in 2007 with “Cara Mia“, in 2009 with “Hope & Glory“, and won in 2015. Additionally, rumors suggest that Måns collaborated with singer and songwriter Ola Svensson, and together they wrote several songs for the upcoming Eurovision selection. Ola has participated in Melodifestivalen four times and released several hits that succeeded in Sweden. According to Aftonbladet’s source, Ola Svensson wrote Zelmerlöw’s competition song together with the singer and additional songwriters such as David Lindgren Zacharias and Sebastian Atas, part of the duo ‘Jübel’.
- John Lundvik – As we reported earlier, John is expected to return to the Eurovision selection. He first participated in Melodifestivalen with the song “My Turn“. The following year, Lundvik returned in a big way and won the Eurovision selection with “Too Late for Love“, with which he represented Sweden at Eurovision and finished fifth in the Eurovision final with 334 points! In 2022, Lundvik returned to the Swedish selection, this time with a song in Swedish, “Änglavakt“. In all his Melodifestivalen participations, John managed to advance directly to the final.
- Arvingarna – The band won Melodifestivalen in 1993 with “Eloise“, where they received seventh place. Since then, they have competed in the Eurovision selection five more times! If the band returns next year, it will be their seventh time in the Swedish Melodifestivalen.
- Klara Hammarström – As we reported earlier, Klara Hammarström is expected to participate again in the Swedish Eurovision selection. It is now reported that singer Cazzi Opeia, who won Eurovision as the writer of “Tattoo” and also won the American Song Contest as a songwriter. Cazzi Opeia herself participated twice in Melodifestivalen and wrote additional songs that participated in it.
- Annika Wickihalder – Participated in the semi-finals of the music reality show “Idol” in 2021. Last year, she competed in Melodifestivalen 2024 and reached 8th place in the final after winning the Second Chance round.
- Scarlet – The duo Scarlet had a hit in the previous edition of Melodifestivalen with their metal song “Circus X“, but now it can be revealed that the duo received a message from SVT that they are fully ready to compete again in the competition. A source who heard the song reports that their song will fight for victory in the Swedish selection!
- Dolly-Style – A girl group known for their unique and special appearance. In the past, the band included three girls, and they participated three times in Melodifestivalen. Now the band has grown and contains four girls. The song they are expected to participate with is described as “playful and with a strong rhythm”.
- Malou Prytz – A 21-year-old singer who achieved great success when she first appeared in Melodifestivalen as a 16-year-old child in 2019 with the song “I Do Me“. Since then, she has competed twice more, in 2020 and 2022. It’s said to be a strong pop song, but at the same time more mature than her previous songs.
- Andreas Lundstedt – The 52-year-old singer competed five times in Melodifestivalen with the band Alcazar and four times as a soloist. Andreas is experienced in the music field and last summer performed on a tour with the Swedish program “Diggiloo”.
- Tennessee Tears – The country duo consists of Jonas Hermansson and Tilda Feuk. They are known to fans following Melodifestivalen as they took part in the 2023 edition, reaching third place in the second heat with the song “Now I Know“. This allowed them to compete again in the Second Chance round, where they finished 5th, just 8 points short of reaching the final.
- Kaliffa – Kaliffa Olle Karlsson, 44, a member of the band “Hoffmaestro” who broke into a solo career in 2017 when he released his first single. It is said that Kaliffa will send a song similar in style to the band Medina, who succeeded in Melodifestivalen.
- Maja Ivarsson – The singer is very well-known in Sweden and also in the United States. She is the lead singer of the band The Sounds. The band is an indie-rock band that has released many hits such as the song “Living In America“. In 2012, she participated in the reality show “Så mycket bättre”, where participating artists perform their own versions of well-known songs by other artists participating in the show.
- Meira Omar – A 32-year-old singer and actress of Afghan descent, who recently participated in the Swedish version of the Netflix reality show “Love is Blind”. As part of the show, she found her partner, whom she married.
Melodifestivalen 2025 – What We Know So Far
This year, the Swedish national selection has attracted many artists, with reports of no fewer than 2,794 songs submitted for consideration. Thirty songs will compete in the contest, divided into five heats. In each heat, six songs will compete, with the top two songs advancing directly to the final. The songs ranked third will move to the Second Chance round, from which two more songs will be chosen. The Melodifestivalen final will feature 12 songs in total. The winner will be determined by a combination of international jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%). The heats will be held in different locations across Sweden over several weeks, as follows:
- First Heat: February 1, Coop Norrbotten Arena, Luleå
- Second Heat: February 8, Scandinavium, Gothenburg
- Third Heat: February 15, ABB Arena, Västerås
- Fourth Heat: February 22, Malmö Arena, Malmö
- Fifth Heat and Second Chance Round: March 1, Husqvarna Garden, Jönköping
- Grand Final: March 8, Friends Arena, Stockholm
Sweden in Eurovision 2024
“Unforgettable” is the name of the song performed by the duo Marcus & Martinus in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The duo was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision after winning the Swedish pre-selection, Melodifestivalen. Sweden finished ninth in the final with 174 points.
