Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in MESC 2025. Who should represent Malta at Eurovision according to the editorial team?

The Irish Eurovision national selection, “MESC 2025”, is set to take place tonight at 21:00, featuring 616 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Malta at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Maltese national selection.

Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Malta?

Avi Zaikaner: First Place – Kristy Spiteri – “Heaven Sent

The Maltese Eurovision national selection must have one clear and obvious winner – Kristy Spiteri! Her song “Heaven Sent” is a light, catchy pop-opera track that can easily capture the attention of both the audience and the juries – and Malta desperately needs public votes in the semi-final! If Kristy represents Malta, she could bring Malta into the Eurovision Top 10 final for the first time since 2021! They must make the right choice!

Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Miriana Conte – “Kant”

The Maltese national selection this year is surprisingly good! I didn’t expect such a high level, especially compared to Malta’s usual selection which typically consists of songs rejected from other national finals and bought cheaply. My top choice is “Kant” by Miriana Conte, which is pure genius, a brilliant piece. The double meaning of the word “Kant” really makes the song. I didn’t expect Miriana to be a gifted singer, but she sang well on stage, hit all the notes, and delivered an especially funny and very striking performance! Well done Miriana, good luck!

Shahar Asido: First Place – Kristy Spiteri – “Heaven Sent”

The song “Heaven Sent” by Kristy Spiteri is simply amazing in my opinion, catchy and most importantly performed well live (which is very surprising and difficult to achieve in Malta). The lyrics of the song and the incorporation of opera simply give it uniqueness, and I really love this difference.

Aviad Berger: First Place – Miriana Conte – “Kant”

Truthfully, I was very hesitant about putting Miriana first, as she didn’t have such a good performance in the semi-final. Nevertheless, I decided to choose her as the worthy representative because she has the most potential to explode on stage, and I hope she’ll improve by Basel. Besides, Kristy and Victoria could also totally explode and set the stage on fire, I’d be happy with any of the three!

Noy Yehoyada: First Place – Kristy Spiteri – “Heaven Sent”

Kristy Spiteri‘s “Heaven Sent” is undoubtedly my top choice in the competition. From the first second, the song captivates with an addictive tune that stays in your head, a sweeping melody, and precise, stunning vocals. Her vocal performance is incredibly impressive – she manages to perfectly blend modern pop with touches of light opera, giving the song unique depth and a powerful feel. The polished production and dramatic peaks make it one of the most memorable pieces this year. It’s not just another song, but a complete musical experience that I simply can’t stop listening to!

Tal Dahan: First Place – Miriana Conte – “Kant”

The Maltese Eurovision national selection surprised this year with a higher level of production compared to previous years, and even in relation to selections in larger countries. In my opinion, there are two particularly outstanding songs – “Kant” and “Heaven Sent”, and from these, I chose “Kant“. It’s a brilliant song with double (and even triple) meaning, sung by a singer who celebrates female empowerment and should undoubtedly lead us. Her performance in the national selection was nothing short of iconic, and I’m very curious how the song will be received on the Eurovision stage.

Guy Solo: First Place – Victoria – “Juno”

A very strong selection for Malta this year, which is a big compliment when it comes to the Maltese. I have three winners, each of whom could represent Malta with great honor and even make it to the final! But if I must choose only one winner, it would be Victoria with the song “Juno”. Victoria brings a perfect pop song that sounds innovative and refreshing and blends wonderfully with the singer’s powerful voice. From the moment the songs were revealed, it was clear to me that this was a strong contender, and her performance in Malta’s second semi-final only strengthened my opinion even more. The vocal performance on stage was one of the most impressive I can remember in recent years, although some fine-tuning can still be done on the staging and choreography. The song depicts a figure shrouded in mystique and power identified with Juno, the goddess of marriage and women from Roman mythology. The character deals with undeserved pain and injustice while seeking to release her inner strengths. The song incorporates imagery from mythology and describes the character as one with angel wings and immense powers, seeking recognition and release. Victoria must be chosen as Malta’s representative for Eurovision 2025!

Ronnie Glik: First Place – Miriana Conte – “Kant

Kant. How can one describe what’s happening here? The biggest phenomenon of the season is Miriana Conte with the song “Kant“, which has won the title of the most iconic song and the main anthem of the season without any competition. This is a brilliant work of art written by an exceptional mind, with a crazy performance that would take the average person over 5 business days to digest the viewing experience. I personally am mesmerized and enjoying every moment of listening to this divine and brilliant song and keeping my fingers crossed that the Maltese national anthem will represent Malta with honor in Basel!

Maayan Eli: First Place – Kantera – “LalaRataTakeke LalaRataKabum”

There are many bad songs in this selection and two that are good and competed for first place in my opinion. In the end, I chose the non-generic one that I won’t forget and the performance will be especially fun. It’s a bit reminiscent of a musical and I hope the stage will suit all this dramatic fun. There’s a chance I’m imagining a chicken running around on stage during the performance. It’s not pop and it’s not a ballad and reminds me of Armenia last year that many loved. The audience will surely enjoy it during the performance. I feel a bit sorry for all the graphic designers who will try to fit the name of the song into any list or design – maybe they’ll disqualify it because of this.
