The Icelandic Eurovision pre-selection “Söngvakeppnin 2025” continued this evening with the second semi-final. Five contestants participated in the semi-final, and three of them advanced to the final. The three were chosen solely by the audience vote. The second semi-final was hosted by Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sveinsson, and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir.
Now, Iceland’s Eurovision selection process has the grand final that will be held on Saturday, February 22.
Results of the first second-final (finalists are highlighted):
- Dagur Sig – Flugdrekar / Carousel
- Júlí & Dísa – Eldur / Fire
- Bára Kristín – Rísum upp / Rise Above
- Bjarni Arason – Aðeins lengur
- Tinna – Þrá / Words
In each semi-final that will include five songs as in previous years, three of them will advance to the final. This year, the winner will be determined by a vote of seven international judging points and audience voting with a 50-50 weight, where the winning song is the one with the highest number of points in the single voting round that will take place.
The Icelandic song contest “Söngvakeppnin” has been held since 1981, serving as Iceland’s Eurovision national selection since 1986, except for years when internal selection was used. The competition includes two semi-finals where songs must be performed in Icelandic, with the public selects the finalists. In the final, qualifying songs can be performed in Icelandic or English, depending on the artist’s preferred language for Eurovision.
Among tonight’s participants, there’s one familiar name: the singer Bjarni Arason participated in the Icelandic Eurovision preselection twice, in 1988 with the song “Aftur og aftur” with which he reached ninth place, and in 1992 with the song “Karen” with which he reached second place.
From the first semi-final held last week, three songs qualified for the final: the singer Stebbi Jak with the song “Frelsið Mitt“, the singer Ágúst with the song “Eins og þú“, and the duo VÆB with the song “Róa“.
