Members of the Euromix editorial team convened to vote for the competing songs in Depi Evratesil 2025. Who should represent Armenia at Eurovision according to the editorial team?
The Armenian Eurovision national selection, “Depi Evratesil 2025”, is set to take place this afternoon at 16:00, featuring 12 contestants. The winner of this local competition will represent Armenia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. In anticipation of this event, Euromix editorial team members gathered to listen to the participating songs and select their favorites from the Armenian national selection.
Editorial Picks: Who Should Represent Armenia?
Ofek Jerassi: First Place – Milena Mirijanyan – “Romantic Net”
I had high expectations for the Armenian national selection this year, thinking they would continue their trend and provide many ethnic songs, like last year’s song that brought them to the top 10, so I thought… The Armenian national selection is full of non-ethnic, inauthentic songs. Athena Manoukian returned with an even weaker song than the one she had at Eurovision 2020, and Parg, whom many expected to deliver, didn’t deliver. Among all the songs, I found “Romantic Net” to be the best song, I loved its flow, and the vocal abilities that Milena Mirijanyan brings. Do I think the song can reach high at Eurovision? Definitely not, it’s outdated and not suitable for the stage, but to my personal taste, it’s the best song that came out of there.
Guy Solo: First Place – Athena Manoukian – “DaQueenation”
Just when Armenia finally decided to bring back their iconic Eurovision pre-selection – it had to be disappointing. In my opinion, no song is strong enough to survive the semi-final, or even survive the big stage in Basel. The only one who might be able to handle the task is Athena Manoukian, Armenia’s representative at Eurovision 2020, who is remembered for the song “Chains On You” that wasn’t performed on the Eurovision stage due to its cancellation. Athena brings a song that seemingly sounds like a hit, but I didn’t find any particularly interesting innovation in it and it sounds like a generic song from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. The song describes a person who isn’t afraid to leave and aspire to their goals, confident in themselves and their ability to face challenges and achieve their dreams, while ignoring attempts by others to stop them. In short, Armenia, go back to internal selection.
Maayan Eli: First Place – Mels – “Losing”
A cute and rather standard song in a pre-selection with not particularly special or exciting songs. I chose it because it’s the only one whose melody stayed with me after I heard the entire list. There’s something light, fun, and holiday-like about it and it can fit well in many playlists. If performed well vocally and with good elements on stage that make it stand out, “Losing” could be great.
Ronnie Glik: First Place – Parg – “Survivor”
In first place, I chose my beloved Parg with the song “Survivor”, I’ve loved Parg for a very long time and I’ve been eagerly waiting for the moment he would come to compete for his place at Eurovision. He brought the best song I could expect, an incredibly strong and powerful song, amazing lyrics, and leaves a kind of shock in the body after each listen. It has the vibe of a Eurovision winner from the first listen and has no competitors in this pre-selection, yes, not even Athena, Armenia’s representative in 2020. He’s a level above everyone else and will undoubtedly bring Armenia their best result since 2014! One of the craziest songs I’ve heard recently and without a doubt the best song in our Eurovision season this year!
Shahar Asido: First Place – Mels – “Losing”
A crazy surprise from Armenia bringing us one of the strongest pre-selections this year! In my first place is Mels’ song which I think can work on stage and also bring Armenia’s uniqueness to Europe but there’s no doubt I’ll be very happy if any of my top five wins. I must add kudos to the Israeli producer Yinon Yahel who managed to bring an incredible song with Parg to this pre-selection!
Tal Dahan: First Place – Athena Manoukian – “DaQueenation”
After deliberation, I chose Athena Manoukian’s song, a singer who was already supposed to represent Armenia at Eurovision in 2020 with a great song as well. I really loved the slay atmosphere in the song, which continues the same line as the Maltese song this year, “Kant” – female empowerment in the full sense of the word. Towards the end of the song, the arrangement becomes more ethnic, which distinguishes it from other female pop songs. I must also positively mention Parg’s “Survivor”, an excellent song as well, produced by none other than the Israeli Yinon Yahel.
