Rumours point to 17‑year‑old opera singer Monroe as France’s likely internally‑selected act for Eurovision 2026 in Vienna, with strong French media backing.

The French national broadcaster (France Télévisions) has not yet officially revealed the country’s representative for Eurovision 2026 in Vienna. However, the well-known French newspaperLe Parisien” has shaken things up today. According to a dramatic new report, which confirms information first shared by blogger Clément Garin, France’s entrant will be 17‑year‑old opera singer Monroe.

It is worth stressing thatLe Parisien” is considered a highly reliable source with significant weight, as its reports frequently rely on leaks and inside information from within the broadcaster. Before Eurovision 2025, it was that same newspaper which first revealed that singer Louane would represent France at the contest – a report that proved to be completely accurate. In the past, the paper has also tipped other French acts before their official announcements, such as Tom Leeb in 2020.

What happened to the rumours about Linh?

At the beginning of January, rumours were swirling around singer‑songwriter Linh, who wrote the winning song at Junior Eurovision 2025, “Ce Monde”. Many fans were convinced that Linh had been internally selected and had even cleared her touring schedule especially for the contest. For now, however, the list of potential names in France looks rather chaotic. Although the French national broadcaster has yet to issue any official statement confirming or denying any of the candidates, the latest report in Le Parisien appears strong enough to cast serious doubt on Linh’s participation and to position Monroe as the leading – almost certain – contender.

The possible choice of Monroe would mark a surprising and intriguing change of direction for the French national broadcaster. Over the past two years, France has opted for major established stars: Slimane, who finished fourth in 2024, and Louane, who reached seventh place in 2025. Selecting a 17‑year‑old newcomer would therefore be a bold and exciting new bet. One particularly interesting detail that strengthens the rumours is Monroe’s scheduled performance at the Saint‑Sulpice Church in Paris on 19 May – exactly three days after the Eurovision Grand Final in Vienna on 16 May. This leaves a perfectly timed window for her to take part in the European contest.

Monroe – Who Are You?

Monroe is a 17‑year‑old opera singer, born to a French mother and an American father, who grew up in the Salt Lake City area in Utah, USA. She took her first steps in music as a child in her local church choir. Her major breakthrough with French audiences came only recently, when in January 2025 she won first place in the 11th season of “Prodiges,” the classical music talent show broadcast by the French national broadcaster.

Her musical style is characterised by a distinctive blend of classical music and pop. In November, she released her debut album under the major label Warner Music, featuring classical performances alongside cover versions of timeless pieces such asL’hymne à l’amour by Édith Piaf andOver the rainbow“. In December, she became a viral online sensation after her performance of the hitBerghain by singer Rosalía, accompanied by a pianist under the glass roof of London’s King’s Cross railway station, captured widespread attention on social media. Despite her young age, Monroe already has impressive stage experience and is currently on a concert tour in churches and cathedrals that will run until October.

France at Eurovision 2025

“maman” (in English: “Mom”) is the title of the song to be performed by the singer, Louane, who represented France at Eurovision 2025, in Basel, Switzerland. France finished seventh in the final with 230 points. France was ranked third by the judges, but the young singer received only 14th place from the public vote. The seventh place overall was considered low compared to France’s pre-contest odds, where it was ranked third.

This marks the second consecutive year that France has finished in the top 10 at the Eurovision final.

Eurovision 2026: This will be France’s 67th participation in Eurovision. France joined the competition in 1956 and has won it five times over the years. France’s last victory was in Eurovision 1977 with the song “L’Oiseau et l’Enfant” performed by singer Marie Myriam.
