Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen spark rumors of live music at Eurovision 2026 after Finland’s first rehearsal in Vienna.
Rehearsals for Eurovision 2026 officially began yesterday in Vienna, Austria. This morning, as the first photos from the participating nations were released, one country is generating significant buzz among fans – the current favorite to win, Finland.
In one of the rehearsal images, a microphone can be seen attached to the violin of Linda Lampenius, who is representing the country alongside Pete Parkkonen with the song “Liekinheitin” (in English: “Flamethrower”). Since 1999, live instrumentation has been strictly prohibited at Eurovision to avoid technical failures. This controversial image follows high-stakes drama from six weeks ago, when the violinist submitted an exceptional request to the EBU to perform live on stage. Has the management succumbed to the heat and approved the request?

One microphone, two photos, and a massive question mark
In the third photo of the official post, a full amplification system is visible on the violin, yet in the first photo, the microphone has disappeared. While the presence of the microphone in only one shot might seem suspicious, there is a logical explanation based on the duo’s performance at the national selection.
At the Finnish national selection, “UMK 2026”, the performance of the song concludes with the pair moving from a confession-style booth to the other end of the stage featuring overturned chairs. To reach the precise location in time, Lampenius must sprint while managing a long train and her violin. During this transition, the violin melody continues via the backing track, with the violinist returning to her performance shortly after. Since the photos and descriptions of the first rehearsal in Vienna reveal a nearly identical staging to the national final, a scenario where the microphone is deactivated during the move and reactivated immediately after seems like the most likely technical solution.

The Vienna Rehearsal: Confession Booth, Silver Dress, and Flames

The description of the first rehearsal reveals that Finland chose to maintain the core structure of their national final performance, but with breathtaking visual upgrades:
-
The New Look: Pete Parkkonen emerges from a mysterious confession booth with an energetic, exposed look, while Linda has traded her familiar color palette for a shimmering silver dress.
-
The Visual Climax: The performance becomes a display of power as Linda sprints toward the back of the stage. There, the duo climbs “orchestral ruins” for a vocal and musical duel while the entire stage is engulfed in flames.
This represents a significant threat to the other competitors in the semi-final, that will have to face this unprecedented visual intensity.
What’s Next?
So far, it has not been confirmed whether the EBU approved the violinist’s unusual request for a live performance or if it was denied in accordance with the regulations. In the latter case, Lampenius would be required to mime her performance while the backing track plays, as is the standard for all musicians participating in Eurovision.
For now, all that remains is to wait for more information, photos, and videos to surface in the coming days. EuroMix will continue to provide updates on all developments. Stay tuned!
