Denmark at Eurovision 2025: Sissal, who won “Melodi Grand Prix” and will perform “Hallucination” on the Eurovision stage, reveals dramatic changes in her performance. What exactly is changing?

During an engaging Instagram live broadcast held this evening, Sissal, Denmark’s representative for Eurovision 2025, shared some exciting news about her upcoming performance on Europe’s biggest musical stage. The live was hosted by Kyle Alessandro, Norway’s entrant for the upcoming Eurovision, and featured a bombshell announcement from Sissal — a complete transformation that promises to redefine everything fans previously expected from the Danish entry. Full details below!

A Complete Overhaul from the National Final Version

In clear and direct terms, Sissal outlined a brand-new vision for her Eurovision performance – one that will be entirely different from the version showcased during Denmark’s national selection. Her declaration came as a major surprise to fans and viewers alike, particularly because it entails a comprehensive overhaul rather than just a minor revamp.

“I’m going to change my entire performance. The outfit will change – I’m still going to wear a bodysuit, but a completely different one, more in the style of a swimsuit. The choreography will be completely different, and the stage layout will be completely different. Everything will be different. Maybe even some of the vocal parts, but I’ve said enough.”

A Bold Artistic Direction Emerges

The live session also featured representatives from Austria, Greece, Malta, and France – JJ, Klavdia, Miriana Conte, and Louane respectively – creating a lighthearted yet intriguing atmosphere. Still, all eyes were on Sissal, who stole the spotlight with her courageous decision to reinvent herself and rebuild her act from the ground up at such a late stage in the Eurovision preparation process.

The bold changes Sissal described point to a significant shift in the artistic direction of Denmark’s performance. This is not merely a costume change for comfort or aesthetics — rather, it reflects a deep creative choice aimed at leaving a distinctive visual impression that sets her apart from the competition.

Her repeated emphasis that “everything will be different” highlights that this new approach stems from a broad artistic decision, not an isolated adjustment. The transformation of her bodysuit into a swimsuit-style design, for instance, may be seen as a bold move — one that signals ease, confidence, and a desire to stand out — qualities that often resonate well with juries and televoters.

Heightened Expectations for Denmark’s Staging

Additional elements she mentioned, including the choreography and stage layout, are also undergoing a complete revamp. These are typically aspects that require extensive collaboration with stage directors, designers, and lighting crews. Sissal’s declaration of such comprehensive changes hints at a fresh stage concept yet to be revealed, building anticipation within the Eurovision fan community.

The fact that Sissal chose to unveil these updates during an interactive live session with fellow country representatives adds a dimension of openness and transparency. At the same time, it creates a buzz around her participation — a clever move to generate media attention and audience curiosity ahead of the actual performance.

While Denmark’s entry wasn’t originally considered one of this year’s standouts, the announcement of these sweeping changes may very well turn it into one of the most talked-about acts in the entire competition.

Denmark at Eurovision 2025

“Hallucination” is the name of the song that will be performed by singer Sissal, who will represent Denmark in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2025 to be held on May 15th in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the singer herself, along with Chris Chordz, Line Spangsberg, Malthe Johansen, Linnea Deb, who wrote among others the winning song at Eurovision 2015, “Heroes“, Marcus Winther-John, who wrote the songs for Andorra at Eurovision 2009 and Cyprus at Eurovision 2023, and Melanie Wehbe, who wrote the songs for Denmark and the UK at Eurovision 2019, Sweden at Eurovision 2020 and Denmark at Eurovision 2024. Apart from Deb, Winther-John and Wehbe, this is the first song by the writers to compete in Eurovision. The song is performed in English.

The song describes a connection so strong with another person that it feels almost unreal – like a hallucination.

Sissal – Who are you?

Sissal, or by her full name Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, is a 30-year-old Danish singer-songwriter born in the Faroe Islands, and currently residing in Copenhagen, Denmark. At the age of 10, she won a music competition equivalent to MGP in the Faroe Islands, and alongside music, she is studying to become a teacher.
