KAJ, Sweden’s Eurovision 2025 representatives and current favorites to win, have disclosed adjustments to their performance as they transition from Melodifestivalen to the Eurovision stage. Full details in the article.
Sweden is known for maintaining consistent performances between its national selection, Melodifestivalen, and the Eurovision stage. However, KAJ, Sweden’s representatives for Eurovision 2025 with their song “Bara Bada Bastu” (In English: “Just Take a Sauna”), have announced several changes for their performance in Basel, Switzerland. These include reducing the number of dancers and reconstructing the sauna featured in their staging.
Adjustments to Meet Eurovision Rules
Jakob Norrgård, a member of KAJ, revealed details during an interview on Yle’s Swedish-language video podcast Torille. He explained that the band will perform on the Eurovision stage with three dancers instead of four, as only six participants are allowed on stage per song at Eurovision. Since the band itself has three members, their backstage backing vocalist will also not be able to join them in Basel.
“We have three dancers who are also great singers. So, they’ll sing along during the chorus while dancing,” Norrgård shared.
The band’s Melodifestivalen performance featured a sauna setup on stage, which will also undergo modifications for Eurovision. In the original staging, the sauna started on the floor and was lifted by stage technicians during the song. With only six people allowed on stage in Basel, the three dancers will now handle lifting and folding the sauna themselves. To accommodate this change, the sauna will be redesigned for easier handling.
The Challenge of Props: Fir Trees and Swiss Logistics
Norrgård humorously added:
“Then we need to figure out what to do with the fir trees. They have amazing needles, but I’m not sure where we’ll find fresh fir trees in Switzerland in May.”
Sweden at Eurovision 2025:
“Bara bada bastu” (in English: “Just take a sauna”) is the title of the song that will be performed by band KAJ, who will represent Sweden in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2025, taking place on May 13 in Basel, Switzerland. The song was written by the band members – Kevin Holmström, Axel Åhman, and Jakob Norrgård – along with Anderz Wrethov, Kristoffer Strandberg, and Robert Skowronski.
Wrethov is no stranger to the Eurovision world, having written numerous Eurovision songs, including “We Will Rave” by Kaleen, who represented Austria in Eurovision 2024, “Fuego” by Eleni Foureira, who represented Cyprus in Eurovision 2018 and finished in second place, and “Voices” by Tusse, Sweden’s representative in Eurovision 2021. The song is performed in Finnish and Swedish.
Nowadays, Sweden leads the betting odds with 27% chance to win Eurovision 2025.
