Croatia’s Eurovision 2025 representative, Marko Bošnjak held his first rehearsal in in Basel with the song “Poison Cake”. Stay tuned for all updates from Switzerland.
Marko Bošnjak, The Croatian representative, is the seventh act to rehearse today on the Eurovision 2025 stage with his song “Poison Cake“. Marko will perform as song number 14 in the first semi-final, scheduled for May 13th.
The staging has undergone a dramatic transformation-gone is everything from “Dora”. The lighting now uses criss-crossing “lego” beams to create a more intimate and theatrical space, with red and green storm clouds and flames intensifying the atmosphere.
Innovative Stage Design and Visual Effects
Marko’s previous black, pointed-shoulder outfit has been swapped for a striking full-length cape trimmed with fur, channeling a dark Tudor prince vibe. A grey cauldron sits center stage, with Marko and four dancers performing spell-like movements during the first verse and chorus. The dancers are dressed in coordinated blue and white costumes with frills and ribbons, and in the latter half, they move to a frame stage as Marko removes his cape to reveal a matching blue and white shirt.
The live arrangement feels heavier, with deeper bass adding to the moody and immersive ambiance-far removed from the “Dora kitchen” setup. The performance is now much darker and more atmospheric, fitting for the Basel stage.
Pyrotechnics and Special Effects
Special effects include thick low fog for a mystical opening, plus flames and jets at the front of the stage during the final choruses. The finale features smoke jets echoing visuals on the LED wall, while the “lego” lights switch to a techno-inspired display, making for a visually intense finish.

Croatia at Eurovision 2025
“Poison Cake” is the name of the song to be performed by the singer Marko Bošnjak who will represent the Croatia in the second part of the first semi-final of Eurovision 2025 to be held on May 13th in Basel, Switzerland.
The song was written by the singer along with Bas Wissink, who also wrote “Juno” for the Maltese national selection, Ben Pyne, and Emma Gale, who wrote “Monster” for the Latvian national selection and “Sulale” for the Norwegian national selection. This is the first Eurovision song for these writers. The song is performed in English. The song expresses feelings of anger, frustration, and a desire to regain control over the speaker’s life. It ends with some acknowledgment of the severity of the act, but without true remorse. The overall message is that revenge, although it may seem sweet at first, is ultimately toxic and dangerous for all parties involved.
Currently, the singer is ranked 37th (last) in the betting tables.
