Swedish national broadcaster, SVT, has announced it will reveal the contestants for Melodifestivalen 2025, Sweden’s Eurovision selection show, on November 26.

Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision, is widely regarded as the largest and most popular pre-selection, followed avidly by fans across the globe. Next Tuesday, November 26, SVT, Sweden’s national broadcaster, will unveil the complete list of contestants for the 2025 edition.

This year, 30 songs will compete, divided into five heats. Each heat will feature six entries, with the top two advancing directly to the grand final. Songs placed third will enter the Second Chance round, from which two more finalists will emerge. The final lineup will consist of 12 entries, with the winner determined by a combination of international jury votes (50%) and the audience vote (50%).




Rumored Contestants for Melodifestivalen 2025

Although the official list has yet to be released, speculation about potential participants is running high. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has reported several names rumored to take part in this year’s competition. It should be noted that Aftonbladet’s reports are not official confirmations by SVT, but the newspaper has a strong track record. Last year, it accurately predicted 29 out of 30 participants. So, who might we see on the Melodifestivalen stage this year?

Several other artists have been previously reported as potential participants, including Eurovision 2015 winner Måns Zelmerlöw, Melodifestivalen 2016 winner Frans, Melodifestivalen 2019 winner John Lundvik, and the band Arvingarna. Melodifestivalen 2025 – What We Know So Far

This year, the Swedish national selection has attracted many artists, with reports of no fewer than 2,794 songs submitted for consideration. Thirty songs will compete in the contest, divided into five heats. In each heat, six songs will compete, with the top two songs advancing directly to the final. The songs ranked third will move to the Second Chance round, from which two more songs will be chosen. The Melodifestivalen final will feature 12 songs in total. The winner will be determined by a combination of international jury votes (50%) and public votes (50%). The heats will be held in different locations across Sweden over several weeks, as follows:

  • Second Heat: February 8, Scandinavium, Gothenburg
  • Third Heat: February 15, ABB Arena, Västerås
  • Fourth Heat: February 22, Malmö Arena, Malmö
  • Fifth Heat and Second Chance Round: March 1, Husqvarna Garden, Jönköping
  • Grand Final: March 8, Friends Arena, Stockholm

Ticket sales for Melodifestivalen 2025 have opened on November 6. The hosts for the event will be Kristina “Keyyo” Petrushina and Edvin Tornblom.




Sweden in Eurovision 2024

“Unforgettable” is the name of the song performed by the duo Marcus & Martinus in the grand final of Eurovision 2024. The duo was chosen to represent Sweden at Eurovision after winning the Swedish pre-selection, Melodifestivalen. Sweden finished ninth in the final with 174 points.
